A non-superconducting room-temperature, 1550 nm receiver is analyzed for discrimination among n = 0, 1, 2, 3 incident photons. The optical front end combines Gaussian temporal-mode preparation, three independent T 3-inspired phase controls, microring (solid-torus-inspired) resonators, and a Möbius-equivalent Pancharatnam–Berry/Jones polarization transformation. Two distinct detection architectures are studied: a controlled Jaynes–Cummings quantum-nondemolition instrument and a many-pixel, frequency-upconverted silicon avalanche-detector fanout. We derive exact finite-dimensional quantum-control and photon-number decision results, loss/noise tradeoffs, continuum bounds within specified Lindblad models, and calibrated-event acceptance inequalities. No passive four-tool unitary is asserted to reverse unobserved photon absorption. For the 1,051-pixel conditional design, assuming a calibrated pre-window single-photon survival of at least 0.99775, marginal timestamp rejection no greater than 10−4 per photon, the ideal 1, 051-port collision bound, and an all-source false-click event probability at most 7.49225 × 10−6 per trigger, a dependence-free union bound gives minimum correct 0–3 classification probability 0.990089894 . . . and at most 0.749225 false labels per second at 105 triggers/s. The revised optical-tree construction uses exactly 1, 050 binary dividers, with 997 terminals at depth 10 and 54 at depth 11; equal-output precompensation yields exact total splitter throughput 1051τ 11/(997τ + 54). This exposes a stringent insertion-loss requirement absent from a lumped eight-stage ledger. Nominal 1550+1650-nm upconversion produces 799.21875 nm, which must be qualified at that wavelength rather than inferred from a different published conversion experiment.
